The biggest question I am asked is “How do you save Money Meal Planning?Well, the main reason I meal plan is to save my family money and keep to my Family Budget. This means we are able to save for a rainy day or for a fun day out. But all the while we are eating healthy wholesome food.
Shop the Special Offers
Supermarket Specials or loss leaders are a great way to save money. Go through the special Leaflets or the online information of your local supermarkets. I planned my menu from Lidl’s Newsletter as that is my local Supermarket. From the specials write a list of meals your family will eat and add them to your Printable Budget Meal Plan, below, to cover the days you are home cooking. But what happens if the
But what happens if the specials that week don’t suit you?
This does happen sometimes the special offers are great sometimes they are things my family won’t eat . So what you do then? Well, occasionally when a special is something my family will eat I buy two and pop the extra in my freezer for another day and I did this last week. So always check your freezer before you hit the shops – I have a freezer printable for you below.
If that doesn’t work I check out the 30% off freezer in the Supermarket for bargains. Every Supermarket has one and occasionally there is good stuff in them.
Write out your Meal Plan and your Shopping list
Fill out your meal planner using the stuff from your Freezer and special offers first and then finally things that are family favourties. Write what you need for these meals on your shopping list and stick to it. It is so tempting to throwextra things in your trolley I know but if you want to save don’t do it !!

- Never Shopping when Hungry – this one Vital
- Write a List and Stick to it.
- Avoid the “Special goods in the Middle aisle” unless you really need a chainsaw, paddling pool and a new dress?
- “Shop” from your own freezer, fridge, and cupboard first
- Leave the kids/ teens /husband at home they are just as bad for adding things to the trolley

I had some Beef Stir fry pieces in the Freezer and I as it is a warm day I am going use the slow cooker. This Tasty Amazing Slow Cooker Catalan Beef Casserole is perfect for a day like today and so tasty although today I am serving it over rice.
TIP: Slow-cookers are great for saving money on your electricity bill and freeing up your time.
Mince is one of the cheaper meats and you can pick up steak mince which is better quality on Special. I have some in my Freezer but Supevalu is doing packets for €2.00 until Wednesday!
Tip : Want to go veggie why not try meatless mince which is also very reasonable and stores in the Freezer.
Wednesday is always Pizza night. We make ours Gluten Free as my daughter is gluten intolerant. I am building up a bank of Gluten-free recipe and you can find them here Gluten-Free Recipes
Tip_ Don’t be afraid to make your own Pizza – don’t feel confident buy bases from supermarkets and add your own toppings.
Last week Pork chops were on Special and I grabbed some and threw them in the Freezer. I plan on making these Tasty Glazed Pork chops. They are so easy on a busy day and in summer I serve them with Saute potatoes and Salad.
Tip:Not every recipe has to be difficult sometime Meat and two veg is enough or Nut loaf if you are Veggie.
I am a big fan of Fish and luckily so are my girls and this Fantastic Fish Pie is pure comfort food and great for kids that will eat fish.
TIP: Try and get fish into your family diets once in a while it is so good for growing bodies.
